Christmas Memories with C Fam Sisters

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

There's just something about the Christmas season that causes reminiscing. There isn't a year that goes by in our family without somebody bringing up a story from Christmas past. It never ends with one story though. Once we get started it seems there are endless amounts of happy memories we have created, leaving us all laughing and remembering the wonderful times we have shared together.. With Christmas only a few days away, we girls thought it would be fun to each share a Christmas memory here on C Fam Sisters... What are some of your favorite Christmas memories or traditions? Leave us a note we'd love to hear from you!

My favorite Christmas memory would definitely have to be when the United States Army asked our family to go overseas to Kosovo to sing to the troops on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We got stranded in Paris a few days too after missing our flight....I was perfectly ok with that. ;) One of my very favorite Christmases!

One of my fondest memories at Christmastime would have to be baking at my Grandma Dotson's house. I started helping my grandma when I was young and have always looked forward to our baking day. Candy cane cookies and tassies (these are like bite size pecan pies) are two recipes we have made at Christmas for as long as I can remember. Hot cocoa cookies is another recipe that has been recently added to the "Christmas goodie" list for each year. I have so many wonderful memories baking with family...and funny memories of how my dad would always sneak up behind us and try to snitch some cookie dough while we weren't looking. Having a close family is such a wonderful thing and I am feeling so incredible blessed this Christmas. Not only am I so thankful for the wonderful family I was born into, but also for the wonderful family I married into. Phillip and I are celebrating our second Christmas together as a married couple and I am looking forward to making many more fun memories with family in the years to come.  -Sharlenae

One of my favorite Christmas memories would have to be the year I got engaged on December 12th, 2009, at the base of a huge outdoor Christmas tree. We had just had a wonderful dinner and a romantic horse and carriage ride when we stopped by the tree and my husband got down on one knee and popped the question. What a night! Suffice it to say, I got a Romeo for sure and that suits me just fine!  -Brooklyn

One of my favorite Christmas memories is more funny than sweet and sentimental. I was somewhere in my early teens. Mom and I decided to set up the Christmas tree late one night. We got it all lit and decorated, and my mom said to me... I think the tree is a little crooked (it was an artificial tree and the base was a little off balance). She then told me... You hold the tree while I fix the base... As I'm holding the tree up my mom says what sounded to me like "Let go"... I let go of the tree and that was definitely not what she had said! The tree fell completely on top of my mom, and the base snapped and broke! It was definitely quite the site! We were both laughing so hard we could barely get our breath! We had to make a midnight trip to Walmart to buy a new base for our tree, but we definitely made a memory I will never forget and it still makes me laugh to this day.  -Courtney

  2. Great memories - Paris, Grandma's House, Brooklyn getting a true Romeo and Courtney with Kim and the tree (I laughed outloud). My memory/tradition is at Riverdale Assembly of God, Riverdale, CA since 1988 from December 22 through Christmas night from 6-9 pm we do a drive thru Living Nativity with a live cast of over 250 people from the Census to the Manager including Bethlehem and a real angel in the air. Merry Christmas Girls! Thanks for your great Blog idea this year. See you in February. Sis. Tammy (panamamissiongirl)

  10. Christmas memories and traditions are the best! I have so many good ones it's hard to pick just one. Probably my favorite is our annual trip to Williamsburg at Christmastime. That coupled with each of us buying and dating an ornament for the tree each year. It's a trip down memory lane when we decorate the tree and remember where and why each ornament was bought!
Merry Christmas to all of you!

  11. On Christmas Eve before we left for my Grandmothers house, my Dad called me to the sink, " Wash you hands, before dinner, he said" I was like Dad, Grandma has a sink, just do it he encouraged! This is weird, I thought. On the way to my Grandmothers house, he stopped to buy a news paper, I knew my Dad had lost his mind by this point because we had just gotten the same paper delivered to our house that morning. When we got to my Grandmothers house my little cousin sees that I got there and yells and runs to the back of the house! I thought either she didn't want to see me or my whole family had gone crazy right along with my Dad! My Dad looks at me and fesses up, ok I know you think I have been acting strange today (yep, I did) your getting one of your Christmas presents early and its here! He lead me to the back bedroom of my Grandmothers house and I saw the cutest Cocker Spaniel puppy in the world! I started crying because earlier that month, I had to put my dog to sleep because she was sick! I had never been so shocker and so happy in my entire life! That was the sweetest most thoughtful gift I have ever received.

  12. I love your blog!! I really like your style of dressing~very fashionable and modest!! A few of my favorite family traditions are Advent every night, setting up decorations, and listening to Handel's Messiah either on Christmas day or Christmas Eve. We turn off all of the lights besides the Christmas lights and candles and enjoy the wonderful music!!! I really love you ladies and I would LOVE to meet you guys in person sometime! Courtney, I LOVE photography and I think you are really awesome! Do you mind if I ask you a few photography related questions? Love, Grace

  15. Hi y'all, I have been following y'alls blog since the first post, but am only now commenting. ; ) but I have I question I've been curious about, if you dont mind answering. Is there a reason you married ladies dont wear wedding rings? I found it interesting also that your ears are not pierced, but was truly interested in knowing the why of no wedding ring. If its not something you'd care to share, that's fine too. :) I really enjoy the posts!!
